Carolina Wren: The Takeoff
I didn’t realize that I had captured this Carolina wren in action until I was going through my camera after my photo shoot. The speed in which these little birds can move is shown in the blur of its wings as it prepares to takeoff.
The Carolina wren is a common species of wren, resident in the eastern half of the United States, the extreme south of Ontario, Canada, and the extreme northeast of Mexico and is the state bird of South Carolina.
Typically 4.9 to 5.5 inch with 11 inch wingspan, it is a fairly large wren; among the United States species it is second largest after the cactus wren.
