Snowfall at the Old Cistern
A beautiful layer of white snow made the perfect opportunity to photograph the sights at Fort Monroe. The Old Cistern was no exception!
The garrison at Fort Monroe had to rely on several large cisterns for their source of water. No potable water was ever found on Old Point Comfort although one well was sunk more than 900 feet. A map, circa 1834 of Fort Monroe shows that there were several large cisterns on the fort, but the 'Old Cistern' is the last one remaining.
