Pathway to the Postern Gate
The Postern Gate was constructed as part of the original Fort Monroe casemate in the 1820's. It was built as a pedestrian footbridge.
The original iron gate that was at the entrance has long been gone and the wooden bridge replaced with the modern structure that remains there today.
