Snowfall at the Old Cistern
A beautiful layer of white snow made the perfect opportunity to photograph the sights at Fort Monroe.
The Old Cistern was no exception!
No potable water was ever found on Old Point Comfort although one well was sunk more than 900 feet. The garrison at Fort Monroe had to rely on several large cisterns for their source of water. A map, circa 1834, of Fort Monroe shows that there were several large cisterns on the fort, the 'Old Cistern' is the last remaining cistern.
