Yorktown Onion and Monument
Two well-known landmarks in historic Yorktown are The Yorktown Onion and the Yorktown Victory Monument.
The Yorktown Onion originated in Russia and legend has it that the seeds came here during the Revolutionary War mixed with crop seeds or fodder.
The Yorktown Victory Monument was constructed to commemorate an important Allied Victory over the British: the concluding battle of the Revolutionary War. The Continental Congress on October 29, 1781 authorized the construction of the Yorktown Victory Monument which began a century later, and ended in 1884.
