Purple Crocus
One of the first spring bulbs to bloom is the crocus, a member of the iris family.
The crocus derives its name from the Greek word ‘krokos’ and Hebrew word ‘karkōm’ meaning “saffron” or “saffron yellow.”
The yellow stigmas in the center of the flower is the source of the spice Saffron. Saffron cultivation has been documented as early as the 7th Century B.C.
